Endoscopic spine surgery is a type of minimally invasive spine surgery. Using a very small incision, I place a camera and fine surgical instruments to access the affected area of the spine with accuracy.

This approach may suit people with sciatica, disc herniation, spinal stenosis or nerve compression. It is not the right option for every spinal problem, but in suitable cases, it can provide a less disruptive alternative to traditional open surgery.

Sciatica is a type of nerve pain that often begins in the lower back and moves through the buttock, leg or foot. People often describe it as sharp, burning, shooting or electric-like pain.

It is commonly caused by problems such as a lumbar disc herniation, lumbar canal stenosis or spondylolisthesis. I focus first on finding the exact cause, because treatment depends on what is irritating or compressing the nerve. Many people improve without surgery, but if symptoms are persistent or severe, minimally invasive or endoscopic surgery may be considered to ease the pressure.

Lumbar discectomy is an operation used to treat a herniated disc in the lower back when it is pressing on a spinal nerve. This pressure can lead to leg pain, numbness, pins and needles or weakness.

Where appropriate, I use minimally invasive or endoscopic methods for this procedure. The goal is to remove the small piece of disc causing the nerve pressure, while keeping as much normal tissue undisturbed as possible.

Neck problems can create pain that spreads into the shoulder, arm or hand. This may happen when there is a cervical disc herniation, narrowing around the nerve opening, or compression of a nerve root. The right treatment depends on the underlying cause. Options may include non-surgical management, injections, endoscopic cervical foraminotomy, ACDF or another type of cervical spine procedure.
Minimally invasive spine surgery is designed to treat spinal problems through smaller openings, with less disruption to muscles and surrounding tissue. It may be used for conditions such as disc herniation, spinal stenosis, nerve compression, spondylolisthesis and some fusion procedures. My aim is to choose the most targeted approach that can still provide a safe, effective and meaningful result.

Fusion surgery may be recommended when the spine needs extra stability because of significant degeneration, instability, repeated disc problems or spondylolisthesis.

Treatment options may include ALIF, posterior lumbar interbody fusion or lateral lumbar interbody fusion.

These operations are not suitable for every patient, so I take the time to explain whether fusion is needed, why it may help, or why another option may be better.

As a neurosurgeon, I also see patients with brain conditions such as brain tumours, pituitary tumours, trigeminal neuralgia and subdural haematoma.

I know it can be frightening to hear that brain surgery might be needed. My job is to explain the diagnosis in a clear way, discuss the available options and guide you through the process one step at a time.
